Your class teacher is Mrs Torres, supported by Mrs Harlick. In addition to the class teacher, your child will be taught by Edstart for some of their PE sessions, Mrs Townley for French and Mr Price from Bury Music Service. Our Class Timetable
The image is a sample timetable as this does change slightly in line with our Spelling approach, which requires a two week cycle.
PE is on Tuesday and Friday. Children must come to school wearing their PE kit.
Our school PE kit is:
- a white t-shirt
- black shorts
- pumps for indoors
- trainers of pumps for outdoors
- plain, black jogging bottoms
- Navy cardigan/sweatshirt
Branded sportswear and hoodies should not be worn.
Children should bring reading books and records to school every day. We place a big emphasis on reading and listen to the children as often as possible.
Children are expected to read at home 3 x weekly and have their reading record signed by an adult. These will be checked each Friday.
On Thursday 8th June, Year 5 launched their new Topic 'Ancient Greeks' with a visit from the 'Makers of History.' The children learned all about life in Athens and Sparta, had the opportunity to explore lots of artefacts, dress up as mythical beasts and gods. They performed a Greek play, designed Greek Pottery and had a truly wonderful day.

As part of our Jigsaw topic of Health Me, we learned about the recovery position so that we could be useful in an emergency situations. The photos above show us putting our knowledge into action.

We looked at some of the differnet jobs and careers in our society and ranked them in oreder of importance. We decided that some roles were more essential than others but there was a need for all. When we looked at avrage salaries, we were really shocked by the differences. We had a lot of thoughtful discussion around this.
Year 5 loved taking part in A Freddy Fit session. The aim of the session was fitness and fun.
Year Five led whole school worship for St Hilda’s Day. They explained who Hilda was, her qualities and why she became a saint. They also shared some of our schools history.
Children had to use what they know about factors, multiples, primes and squares to identify the mystery table.
Children used their knowledge of shape, symmetry and measurement to make true and untrue snowflakes.
Using thermochemistry paper, the children conducted a fair test to identify the best thermal conductors.
Who knew? - timetables and exercise is fun!!!
Children took part in a mathematical investigation using their knowledge of multiples. They identified which prisoners escaped after 50 days and then had to identify why?
Year 5 and Year 6 led the Harvest Festival Service in Church. All donations made went to support Prestwich Methodist Church Food Pantry.
We are lucky enough to be learning to play the violin this year. In our first couple of lessons we have focused on learning the different notes.
Our focus is identifying the core life skills and putting them in action during our PE lessons.
We were trying to build a paper boat using limited instructions. It was a very frustrating task which really tested if we has strong minds.
We learned about the 66 books in the Bible and ordered them. We also created timelines linked to the translation of the Bible into the versions we know today.
