Welcome to our Reception class page!
In Reception we have Miss Swindell as the class teacher and she is supported by the wonderful Mrs Derbyshire. We are so excited to be working with your children and starting off their school journey at St Hilda's.
This year we have lots of fun and exciting topics planned and lots of trips to look forward to. Below you will find lots of information regarding what we will be doing this year and some helpful information. We look forward to a fantastic year ahead!.
PE Lesson
We have PE with Edstart on Friday. The children must come to school wearing their PE kit.
Our school PE kit is:
- a white t-shirt
- black shorts
- pumps for indoors
- trainers of pumps for outdoors
- plain, black jogging bottoms
- navy cardigan/sweatshirt
Branded sportswear and hoodies should not be worn.
Reading Books and Library Books
Reading is very important and we want the children reading as much as possible.
Children must read their reading book at least 3 times and have their reading record signed only then will they be given a new book. Please send your child's book into school everyday so an adult can listen to them read in school.
At the start of the year we do send home Lilac reading books these are wordless books. The idea behind these books are for your child to talk to you about the story through the pictures they see. Can they follow what is happening? Can they make predictions for what is going to happen? Can they identify character feelings and give reason for this? Can they relate their own experiences to what they have read. These books are fantastic for building comprehension skills and the enjoyment for reading.
Your child will also bring home a library book on Thursdays to support reading for pleasure. They will need to return the book the following Thursday. We are so lucky to have our very own Library bus and the children really enjoy getting to visit and choosing their new books.
From Autumn 2 Phonics homework books will be sent home each Friday. Books need to be returned to school the following Thursday. A newsletters to support this will be uploaded to Tapestry each week.
