Earth, Moon and Space

Journey through space, the final frontier. Navigate beyond the Sun, the magnificent, blazing star at the centre of our Solar System. Investigate the eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Take a look at the Moon, a celestial body that orbits Earth. Work scientifically to investigate gravity, and what happens when there is none. Get in a spin making simple models of the Solar System and listen to the haunting sounds of space themed songs. Exploring space is probably the greatest adventure that humankind has ever undertaken. Are we alone? Or are there other life forms out there?

Relative Distance of Planets

We produced a map to show the relative distance between the planets.  We thought this looked like a long distance but in actual fact 1cm actually represents 1,000,000 miles!

The Moon and Mars

As if by chance, there were multiple opportunities to get a great look at the Red Planet during the week beginning 6th December.

On Wednesday the 7th December, the children were challenges to capture the full moon and Mars as they were in very close proximity.

We wanted to look if the height of a drop would impact on the diamater of an impact crater.

Mass and Weight Investigation.

We learned that mass is how heavy something is and is measured in Kilograms.  Weight is the mass of an item and the force of gravity acting upon it.  We used a Newton metre (named aftern Isaac Newton) to mesure weight in Newtons.  We wanted to see if there was a relationship between mass and weight.
