What do we know about fire in history?

What Will My Child Learn?

Children will use the Talk4Writing approach to learn by heart Sir Talkalot and the Dragon before innovating and inventing their own stories. They will study The Great Fire of London through topic books, the diary of Samuel Pepys, historical sources and web-based research. This will lead to many genres of writing, including their own diaries, information pages and poetry. The children will create Tudor homes from before and after the Great Fire. In P.E. the children will create and perform a dance based on the events in 1666.

Staircase House

Autumn 1

The first half term is almost complete and what a busy one it has been! The children are becoming experts on the Great Fire of London and we enjoyed our recent visit from Fireman Doyle. He was impressed with our learning and taught us about the Triangle of Fire and why it spread so quickly in 1666. We also learned about the specialist clothing and equipment that firefighters use today.

We are looking forward to ending this topic with a trip to Staircase House on Friday 17th November. Letters will be sent home with your children soon.
