Potions

Potions

This was a really fun topic!

We did a lot of science and we loved it (and were really great at it too!)

Firstly, we looked at how different products are labelled and what symbols are used to warn us of potential dangers that could be caused when using these products. Then we looked at some bottles and designed our own to hold a potion. We got to show off our artistic skills here and we did some amazing designs.

Now for the fun part…We then made our favourite design out of clay and used lots of the skills that we had learnt in Year 3 and added a few extra skills in to show how fantastic our clay work really is! Once they were dry, we painted them. We have some pictures below for you to have a look at.

Now for the science…

We learnt about different states of matter – solids, liquids and gases. We pretended we were particles and showed how they might behave when in each of these states. We also carried out some experiments. The first was to look at how water can change state from a solid (ice) to a liquid (when it is heated and melts and turns to water) and then when it is heated again and turns to a gas (steam – we put our melted ice cubes into a kettle and boiled it). Then we found out what a reversible reaction is as we were able to collect some of the steam (Mrs Jones did this carefully!) and show how it can condense and turn back in to liquid/water.

Our favourite experiment was making a gas using bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. We even managed to make the gas blow up a balloon. Have a look at our pictures below to see more.
