Autumn Term 1 - What Can We Learn From Cressida Cowell

Children will critically evaluate Cressida Cowell’s themes, characters, and writing style.  The will learn to make connections between the author’s life and work. Particular focus will be placed on the theme of dragons, which comes through her writing.

Cressida Cowell Fact Finding

We researched our author first and organised the information we found into catagories. We then used publisher to present our information. To do this we had to add images and a background. We played about with colour schemes and the background transparency. Finally, we created text boxes so we could word process the information.

Dragon Mapping

Dragons feature in myths and legends from many countries. Some are considered good but most are bad. They take many different forms. We used the Internet to research beliefs about dragons and added our findings to a world map.

Dragon Art

We have tried hard to develop our drawing skills whilst drawing the types of dragons in Cressida Cowells stories. In our first lesson, we looked at how we could use basic shapes to create an image. We then looked at the grid method to help us recreate an image and finally we added colour using watercolour.

Design a Dragon

We used artwork by Andy Frazer (Dragons of Wales) to design our own dragons.
